Smurfs will make a new account because they are smurfs. This doesn't matter at all to smurfs. People who feel their mmr is unfairly caused by bad team mates will find buying compendium a little more appealing because this feature is included. This gimmick will sell slightly more compendiums. However most people start playing worse when they buy a compendium because they are doing weird things to try to level up their battle points instead of trying to win the game. Even though the random accomplishments don't count unless you also win nobody seems to care about this. So it's probable that the new mmr should be lower than the current mmr if they are trying to level their battlepasses while doing recalibration at the same time.
tl;dr - This is just another way to sell compendiums to people who are on the fence about buying the compendium. Good marketing strategy. They found something a lot of people care about and added it as a bonus.
inb4 smurfs go bck to their 3k main account or 4k main account and play 40 matches and still got calibrated to their true mmr which is 3k/4k.
