I disagree. What kind of toerag thinks it unreasonable to pause for 30secs when someone has to answer the door? Maybe everyone should get 1min uninterruptible pause every 5 games or something.
I think dota needs to hire mods to spectate ranked games.
As for pausing in unranked, who cares, but in ranked there definitely needs to be a new system.
I cannot remember how many times I have had a terrible connection on/off during a game, and I try multiple methods to get my connection steady, and then I'm too late, considered abandoned, win the game, but still lose 25 mmr.
It has happened at least 50 times in over 2000 games. 50 x 25. That is a lot of mmr I could have won.
Honestly, if I had an extra five minutes before being considered abandoned... I think that would fix a lot of issues.
A lot of games it happens to someone else too, and they come back about literally a minute after and get an abandon and lose mmr despite winning the game. If they had 5 more minutes, shit even like 2 more, they would not have that abandon and -mmr
Hell yeah, world wide jobs created. Valve would get huge publicity for that.
But that is a ton of work to make happen, and will never happen.
The wait time in ranked should be 10 minutes, and unranked 5 minutes

why the heck are you playing an online game if your internet isn't stable? Why is it suddenly Valves problem that you can't fix your own problem?
As for the whole pause thing, if you can't reconnect within 5 minutes, you've already screwed 9 people over anyway. People desperately pausing for that guy whos been having connection issues all game just adds more of a pain in the ass for everyone. Why are 9 other players being punished for your horrible internet?
It's should be like this: If someone disconnects, game automaticly pause for 5 mins that can't be unpause. After that the normal 5 min starts. If someone didn't reconcect in that 10 mins its an abonden.

My internet used to be terrible, but now it's very fast and steady, recently though there has been an issue with my apartment. When I called over a tech to check out why the internet was being such shit, I thought it would have something to do with my router or hook-up, but he said it was the apartment's fault. A week or so ago my internet kept randomly shutting off for like an hour, worked for an hour, and then shit itself for another hour and so forth.
I didn't really play that day, after that my ping would be a steady 70Mbps then randomly on dota, it would drop to 5/Mbps and I would have to disconnect/reconnect, and it would go to like 30/Mbps for a few minutes, then shit on itself. And I played other games and my ping was just fine.
Bottom-line: Yeah, sometimes it can be my internet, but I can't predict things that are not my fault (e.g. apartment property not fixing their shit)
And sometimes, dota has weird shit happen to it.
I know for a fact it's not my connection and it's something dota related.
When I have 80/Mbps and start lagging on a US East server (I have an average of 75ms on US East, and 40 on West), that is just bullocks. Why does dota lag, but every other game I own runs fine?
FIVE minute pause! are you insane? Do you even realize how long 5 minutes actually is? After reading this I want you to immediately start a bot match, pause the game and set a timer for 5 minutes and you CAN'T unpause or leave your computer until the timer goes off, bet you make it no longer than maybe 2 minutes.
Yeah, 5 minute priority pause is dumb. Whoever suggested that, I hope you know that that will never happen.
But different pausing mechanics in unranked and ranked should happen.
Honestly, unranked is a bit casual, and great training. When I play unranked I don't expect to win since that is when I test builds, and conduct a very different style of gameplay.
But ranked is more serious.
Hell unranked, game is safe to leave if someone abandons, so you save a potential loss and it does not record against your record and you don't get an abandon.
If someone abandons in ranked, you can leave without getting an abandon, but you auto lose the game and 25 mmr, so the best thing to do is try unless your game is utter shit and you know you can save yourself 30 minutes of wasting your time.
Bottom-line: Ranked is far more strict than unranked, so ranked should have at least 2 more minutes, and be a 10 minute wait for the abandon time instead of 5. Usually (and I have seen this A LOT) another minute, literally even 30 seconds more, and the person would be fine, that is including the unpause spammers.
When someone pause only that person should be allowed to unpase.
If someone disconnects game will automatically pause and only that person can unpause when he reconnects.

Valve should implement a new pausing system, nobody should be able to unpause before waiting at least 5 min, what's the point of pausing when shitstains can just unpause immediately? Getting a little frustrated over those morally disgusting players.
