Dotabuff community stats in General Discussion
Relentless

According to the new Achievements stats Dotabuff has information for 3.2 million accounts. Valve claims about 13 million dota players this month. This may indicate that 75% of dota players have stats hidden.

Dotabuff has records of about 34,741,192 games played this month. Does that include all 13 million players or only those games in which a player who has stats public has played?

In other words if a game has all 10 players with stats hidden does that game get included for instance on the Hero stats?

The higher a player's MMR the more likely they will have stats public. How does this impact the meta game stats? I suspect it has little impact for the 5k+ MMR group. But for the sub-2k MMR group the vast majority have stats hidden.

i think this is the answer to more or less everything

edit: nvm, i didnt think about recorded stats being related to exposed mmr, then it only answers the first question.

If stats are hidden we still record the game and it counts towards global hero stats.

Regarding the stats by MMR: We have the least amount of data for the <2k group, especially for some lesser played heroes like chen. This group is less likely to have stats enabled AND MMR shown on their profile. It's a pretty big group though so we have enough for a good sample size in most regions.

This suggests about 3 games played per month per player overall.

I would expect those with stats on play a lot more games. Even though I only played on one day on this account in February, I played 5 games. But in January I played 76 games on this account.

I wonder how much of the dota is played by the 25% of players with stats on? I suspect those players persist in dota playing for long enough to really learn the game and are part of the fan base as well as the playerbase. But do the 9 or 10 million players per month who may play only 1 game continue to play an occasional game or are new people trying dota all the time and not sticking? Are the casual players part of the fanbase that may watch Major tournaments even though they rarely play?

          What do you think?
