Minimap Laning Icons! in General Discussion

    Hey Guys!

I have a question: Could you guys introduce an icon of the hero at the minimap - which is played in the separate games - so that people can figure out quite fast, which hero is played at which position!?

I am sorry if I am wrong here, but I would rly appreciate it if someone could tell this idea to the provider of dotabuff!!!

You mean like, which roles the hero can take.

      Like this:

      Queen of Pain: Middle Lane
      Anti-Mage: Safe Lane
      Lone Druid: Offlane, Jungle

      ???

It would be nice, but also kind of stupid, since people have different playstyles, people tell me I'm crazy when I go offlane with PA.

        Yes exactly! :)

Well I didnt explain it too well... I meant at the tournament matches, because you can easily see then who played on which position, without knowing each players position (which also changes), so you can try that strat with your team or analyse faster even if you havent seen that particular game! Well you can do it right now too, by loading the whole game and watching it, but that takes really long!
I think this would help teamcaptains and make it quite easy for them to analyse pro strats and drafts!!

        Wink

IMO almost every hero can go to any lane. Lone Druid, for example can actually go anywhere, he is often used as a counterpick against Viper and Outworld Devourer in mid, he can solo safe easily, he can offlane without difficulty if played right, and can jungle if he needs to. A minimap with hero positions would involve 100+ heroes in each lane.

Well I think my english is too bad to explain it right^^

For sure each hero, or at least most heroes, are able to play at different positions! BUT if you look at TI4, for example, and look at the final game Vici Gaming vs. Newbee... The both teams draft is essential and I would like to know at first WHY they picked that hero AND which lane this hero played at the beginning... and with the minimap-icons, you could easily say, well ok they played Mortred e.g. Mid-lane, which you might not expect, if you are not really in to the meta game!

You say e.g. lone druid is a counterpick to OD ... well its right, but I am not sure that everyone knows how to play LD against OD in midlane, so you could easily see LD is picked against OD, and then try yourself at home or at scrims, just for getting a better skill and further to as I said, analyse the enemies draft and early-game laning-phase!

I think that would really help to get better, or at least help you to get into the current meta-game of the current Tournament... I hope you understand now what I mean! :)

            cheers

So, you're suggesting a feature that shows what lanes heroes started the game in?

That would be difficult to program. Maybe as a Plus feature, Oracle could take a snapshot of the minimap every 5 minutes so you knew where everyone was?

                yes thats it :)

I really have no clue how difficult that is, I just wanted to ask if it is possible to do that! :/

If you look at that link, you can see the minimap there, and I would just say its enough if you just put the usual "All pick" - like icons at the minimap, as the heroes appeared in the game! well I am not sure if its even possible to program that, but if somebody know how to it would be really great I think!

Snapshot of the minimap is a good idea.
This is really too difficult, because people rotate... where would you put a roaming Mirana? =/
Or maybe the jungler takes the lane because the carry went hardlane for some reason, anything can happen and this cannot be accurate...

Lets say 33% of people stay on the same lane for 8-10 minutes... that would be a very bad accuracy for a accurate website such as this one.

Maybe a snapshot of where people are at the 1:00 mark with score? That way you don't have to deal with too much extra data; a single snapshot of the minimap at low resolution isn't *too* bad.

                    sadge)

Well I think its just important to know on which lane they placed their picks, to understand which strategy they played... because at all I think you anyway need to adjust your kinda style of play to the situation given in "your" game then... so I think it would be quite well as "Hardcore Heathen" just wrote! :)

We just released an updated hero and facet statistics page featuring more data and advanced filters. Oh, and it supports Turbo!
