for ppl who say u can't be carried up to 5k mmr in party rating is def not accurate, i have someone on my list with 3.9k solo mmr and 5k party, if you have a group of friends who are extremely competent at the game while you playin a party of 3-5, its basically auto win, as long as the weaker player plays supports and buy chick/wards etc
honesty a party of 2 is all you really need to win most party games
1 solo mid, and 1 who is good at jungle/safe/offlane heros, mid usually crushse/minimum break even and help other lanes to dominate even harder, other lanes does not need to have skillful allies as long as you help them so they get kills/xp instead of dying, and with the help of equally competent player at carry/jungle/offlane , its very easily doable
most people who play at a higher level dont care about party ratings as its no where near an indication of your skill level, although solo MMR is not extremely accurate but pretty accurate
there had been a test by a player who is 5.5k MMR on playdota.com, he played an account with 2k MMR, spent about 90-100 games to get to 4k with 90%+ winrate, from 4k to 4.5k 30 games ish with 75% winrate, 4.5k to 5k with 65% winrate, and 5k-5.5k with about 55% winrate
i mostly random and duo queue. had to repick meepo my most recent game since i don't play that hero and i was 99% sure someone would pick ember like a scumbag (and alas, a wild ember appeared!) so there's no way i'm dealing with that bullshit where my hero dies in

also the "getting carried" only applies if ur playing with people > 500 mmr than you consistently, which isn't the case for me
Man my party ranking is tanking! I dropped ~300 pts in last month. The reason I hate it is we usually 3 or 5 stack and NO PLANNING goes into our hero choices whatsoever. It's so casual. Usually one guy randoms and then we all scurry to pick shit around him. Doesn't work. No discussion of who's going to mid? What's their mid pick so you can counter? Do we want to jungle or not? Just one guy randoms something another guy says I feel like playing bloodseeker or whoever. It's awful.
Another big issue is one of our guys always wants to play super aggressively. He loves aggressive tri lanes but doesn't pay attention to the meta game. Like we tried to agg tri vs AM and dazzle. Failed miserably. Agg tri takes a ton of cooridination which we don't have. We're much better going 212 or with a jungler and just trying to win mid and farm for late. But he doesn't want to play to our strengths.
part of the reason you're not winning is you thinking stacking = higher chance of winning, but that's totally dependent on the players. you can't always rely on them and sometimes you have to play like it's 1v5 (solo queue mentality) in order to win
i usually play with 1-2 friends because i'm not too fond of 4/5 stacks and i think i'm on something like a 14 win streak in party ranked games while randoming in more than half of them, which is really odd.
i understand where you're coming from - i used to play with people who demanded that i play some specific hero/role when i'm not comfortable with that shit. people with much lower mmr than me demanding mid/carry, or complaining that i "farm too much" (????) so now i just play w/e i feel most comfortable with.
Exactly, which is why I don't think stacking = higher chance of winning. It depends on how casual you are. Our 3 and 5 stacks are just thrown together like hey so n so is on let's group. No planning, it's not a real team. And since we get matched against other stacks we are actually more likely to lose.

Goron shouldn't be 4500, he's minimum 5500 material , I don't think ur skills can decrease in Dota 2 especially given that Dota 2 is much easier than 1
You mean why do I stack with casuals or since I play casually why do I bother to stack? It's more fun to play with them even if we lose cus we talk and stuff, it's a social game. I don't really care that much, I'm never going to be on any leader boards so who cares if I am 4k or 3k?
just checked goron's stats, he's 4400~ solo and 4500~ party. he told me he got calibrated at something like 4100 solo which made me wince since i'd hate to associate him with that bracket of players (4000-4500)
it's not about him getting worse, it's about everyone improving (relatively speaking), i'm sure you've gotten better as well.
My party rating is pretty much higher than my solo rating (about 400 higher). Usually when I party it's with people who are about 1k higher than me we usually end up stomping or having really good games because of the good communication and coordination and because I get to play as a core (solo offlane 90% of the time) which has a big impact early on in the game and can set the tempo of the game if played right.
