You get double the charges, and it's often a good idea to start with a couple of branches, especially for plenty of int supports that means an extra 30 mana at the start. I also rarely sell items as a support unless it's a very late game scenario, so I might as well upgrade my stick.
The item is like a seat belt. You might not need it but when you do you'd wish you have one.
It's a life saver and buying you some times when you(r hero)'re dying. Worth the 450 golds.
I always upgrade it to wand for the extra charges, but it might not be necessary for some mid heroes like kunkka, the extra 250 gold is a good investment for an item that can potentially save ur life(prioritize this over lace)
No one is talking about the mana it gives, its like a free mango every teamfight. Which is a HUGE game changer for some heroes who have some mana issues (of course you should use it when you have a little missing health and mana)

Simply upgrade it when you think you are going to be getting more than 10 charges. Super good value if so, super bad value if no.

However, I kinda agree with you about supports. I prefer double mango instead of a wand or even a stick. Buying a wand on position 5 is expensive AF. Mango gives mana, passive hp regen and you can share it. But on the other hand it's supports end game slot almost always lol. So, why not to invest?
But still there's nothing better than cheap stats plus charges for positions 1-3. you can sell it for half the price so it's a benefit over mango for sure.
I can't think of a lot of situations where Stick is good, but not Wand. If you already want to buy a Stick, the two branches and recipe turn it into one of the most cost efficient stat items in the game. That extra mana and HP helps a lot as a support.
You're wrong, wand upgrade is always better than stick, ALwAYS! Sucks that there's a recipe now, makes it harder and a hassle to build.

Most recent wand (1.5 hp regen, plus stats) was the best. The HP regen was enough to actually provide enough regen for the lane for you to remain there without needing to get a ring of health or bottle to keep laning. Then they had to go and change it, and nerf mango hp regen on top of that so now instead of just buying 1 mango for 1hp regen at 100 gold you have to spend 140 gold for 1.2 regen and have 2 unsellable mangoes stuck in your inventory or forgo that and save for ring of health. It sucks.
Never mind the ridiculousness of needing to use the courier to ship out the wand recipe again. This was the number 1 reason I never bothered with wand before since outside the laning phase it’s not worth bothering with buying a wand.
I build magic wand literally to every support in my game. Cheap stats 3 attributes to all (compared to buying slipper of agility, gauntlet of strength and mantle of intelligence) and you can store up to 300 hp + mana for last resort of survival or killing blow. On core however, its situational (especially facing against bristle, skywrath, zeus etc.). The hell is wrong with you

buying wand is silly almost on all heros, especially supports... (except a few situations like laning versus BB or zeus). Change my mind...
